"Safe Science for Sustainable Technology to Achieve Reverse Supply Chain"

Profile

     A. K. Thakur, continuing currently as the Professor of Physics at the Department of Physics at Indian Institute of Technology Patna, was born in May 1967 in a middle class academician family at Deoghar in Bihar (now in Jharkhand) province in India.

After receiving primary education in the village school in the district of Sitamarhi (Bihar), he migrated for secondary, senior secondary, college and university level education to the district of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. He has performed exceedingly well throughout educational journey from school to the university phase and passed out M.Sc. (Physics) from B.R.A. Bihar University securing 1st rank in 1st class.

Subsequently, he joined doctoral research at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong and received the most coveted NEHRU fellowship (awarded to only 1 candidate in the country per year then for doctoral studies in Science) to carryout PhD work at the National University of Singapore (NUS) under the terms and conditions of the fellowship.

On completion of doctoral research, Prof. Thakur entered into professional career and joined the Twenty First Century Battery Limited (the 1st lithium-ion battery manufacturing company in India) at Mohali (near Chandigarh) to head its R&D unit. Subsequently, he moved to Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (the 1st and mother of all the IITs in the country). At IIT Kharagpur he established himself as an astute teacher and accomplished research scientist, where he successfully guided, over a dozen Ph.D. students apart from M.Tech. and M.Sc. student research projects.

When 2nd generation IITs started in 2008 and these IITs were in need of faculty with IIT experience, Prof. Thakur migrated to IIT Patna in October 2010.

Prof. Thakur is indebted to his parents for all the support and everything they did to raise him to this stage. Apart from this, Prof. Thakur feels indebted with sincere gratitude to all the academic and professional mentors for their wisdom, guidance and support that enabled him to achieve professional goals with value.

Prof. A. K. Thakur strongly believes that "research holds the key for innovation, novelty, new development and creativity for sustainable growth".

The generic research expertise of Prof. Thakur is experimental condensed matter physics and applied physics with interest in specific experimental research comprising; (a) renewable clean and green energy, (b) solid state ionic devices, (c) storage cells, (d) solar photovoltaics, (e) dielectric & ferroelectrics, (f) processing and fabrication of nanomaterials (g) E.M.I. shielding, (h) battery management system (BMS) design and fabrication for operational safety of battery packs for EV applications, (i) product design simulation and development for commercialization.

Current research focus of Prof. Thakur is renewable energy storage technology (REST), patented technology development, product design and development to contribute for national mission on "Atmnirbhar Bharat".

Prof. Thakur is always open to synergistic collaboration with any research group(s) and/or industry working in the area of common interest. An intended collaborator can drop an e-Mail (akt@iitp.ac.in).
